Buckman Year-End Ask Campaign Has Launched!

Every year, the Buckman Foundation turns to the school community to ask for direct donations to support arts and literacy staffing at our school. The Year-End Ask campaign launches on #GivingTuesday, an international day of giving, and runs until December 31.

Please consider making your contribution. Giving is easy: drop of a check in the Foundation mailbox or give online at allhandsraised.org (be sure to select “PPS” and then “Buckman School” from the drop-downs). You can spread out your gift into monthly payments or make a one-time contribution.

Giving at any level helps! If we reach 75 donors – of any amount – our Challenge Match sponsors have agreed to contribute $8,500 collectively to the school! A gift of $5 can make all the difference.

Thank you for continuing to support Buckman! If you have any questions, please reach out to the Buckman Foundation by emailing foundation@buckmanelementary.org.

Support Buckman on #GivingTuesday!

#GivingTuesday, the largest worldwide day of giving, is now in its sixth year. After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday falls on November 28 this year, as the philanthropic response we all need after the mayhem of holiday sales. Set out to support your favorite organizations, including your favorite elementary school!

This #GivingTuesday, the Buckman Foundation will launch its Year End Ask campaign, an annual campaign wherein Foundation leadership turns to the Buckman community to directly ask for donations. As part of the campaign, members of the Buckman community are asked to participate in the Buckman matching gift challenge: if 75 contributors step up to the plate to donate at whatever level they are able, a group of Buckman families has agreed to give an additional $8,000! Donating is easy: head to All Hands Raised (select Buckman from the drop-down menu) or drop off a check in the Foundation mailbox. Grandparents, relatives, neighbors and friends are all invited to join in our Year-End efforts, so please share this news with them!

The Buckman PTA has also launched a new playground project, and has partnered with Columbia Credit Union to raise the initial funds. From now until December 15, stop by their Goat Blocks location (950 SE 10th Ave) and enter your email address as a vote for Buckman. On #GivingTuesday, votes count double; if you mark yourself as “Checked-in” on Facebook, your vote counts triple! Columbia Credit Union has generously offered to donate up to $10,000 to this project, but we need enough votes to make it happen! Participation is FREE and only takes a minute of your time.

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!

We are less than one week away from the start of school for Buckman students (except kindergartners) and activity is ramping up! We are delighted to welcome back families and are excited to meet those new to the school. As our kickoff to 2017-2018, we hope to see you on Community Care Day this Saturday, August 26, 9-12am, when we prep the grounds and get Buckman ready for the school year. Bring your gardening supplies or use some of those provided! Kids welcome!

You will be receiving tons of information at the start of school regarding upcoming events and happenings at Buckman in your parent packets. Please review the documents you receive thoroughly; you’ll find good information about ways to get involved and various happenings planned for the year. For those interested in keeping tabs on school events, you can subscribe to our school calendar which will be updated throughout the year. Head to the events page and hit the subscribe button below the calendar. Easy!

Now that school is (almost!) back in session, stay tuned to this website for regular updates and current information about PTA, Foundation, and Buckman community news!

Support Our School! Attend the 2017 Buckman Auction on May 13

This year marks the 28th annual Buckman Auction, taking place May 13 at 6pm at the Hinson. Celebrate our school and our community with a night of live music, food, drink, and, of course, bidding! As Buckman’s biggest fundraiser, the auction helps fund staffing to maintain the school’s arts and literacy programs. Tickets may be purchased online, and child care will be availablebear_horse_360x200 at the venue.

  • The evening starts with a silent auction; some of our favorite items included acting lessons, a year’s worth of Voodoo Donuts; outings at Kells Irish Pub; date nights with food, Doug Fir tickets, and overnight at the Jupiter; and party packs for Commons Brewery, Basecamp, and WineBuys.
  • Expect some great local cocktail and beer samplings, paired with an hors d’ouvres styled feast of cheese, wine, bread, fruits, and luscious deserts.
  • A live auction will include awesome art produced by Buckman students. Our favorites last year: a beautiful Portland paper 3d skyline; a color mosaic portrait of the late David Bowie made while listening to the White Knight himself; and glass-fused art of the four seasons. The live auction will also include featured items such as coastal vacations, wine tasting tours, Thorns tickets, and more!

If you’re not interested in attending the auction but would still love to support Buckman, you can do so here.

Thank you to the entire Buckman community for supporting our school and making the auction an amazing event!

#GivingTuesday: Year End Ask, Dines Out, and Pub Night!

#GivingTuesday (www.givingtuesday.org) is a worldwide celebration of giving that occurs each year after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The social media event, taking place this year on November 29, encourages people to give time, money or goods to causes or organizations they wish to support. Last year, more than 45,000 organizations in 71 different countries were a part of #GivingTuesday, and this year we invite you to support the Buckman Foundation as part of #GivingTuesday in one of two ways.

First, the Foundation is kicking off its annual Year End Ask campaign on #GivingTuesday. This month-long fundraiser asks families and members of the Buckman community to donate directly to the Foundation. Last year, we raised $12,000 in support of our amazing school, and we hope to exceed that amount this year. Donating is simple: head to www.allhandsraised.org and select Buckman ES. Fill in your details with your selected donation amount, and you are done. We encourage everyone to consider being a monthly donor, which you can set up directly on the website.

Second,migration-brewing-logo our monthly Dines Out event will be on #GivingTuesday at Migration Brewing from 5:30-9:30 pm. Stop by for a drink, snack, or full meal and Migration will generously donate a portion of sales to the Foundation. We are doubling up by hosting November’s Foundation Pub Night at 7:00 pm at Migration as well; look for the sign to join in the conversation. We have lots of exciting plans taking shape for the remainder of the school year. Come find out how you can get involved!
