Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!

Welcome to all new and returning Buckman Bears! Though we won’t be seeing one another in-person for the usual back-to-school excitement and mayhem, we  send a heartfelt congratulations on the start of another year to all Buckman students. Back to school packets may be downloaded here.

Our “soft start” for students in grades 1-5 is Wednesday, September 2 and incoming kinders begin on September 8. The “soft start” window ends and the first quarter officially begins on  September 14. This introductory period gives students, families, and staff time to get acquainted with distance-learning and one another. There is no school on Labor Day, September 7.

In the coming weeks, the Buckman PTA and Foundation will be sharing updating on how to best support Buckman in these difficult times. We know that community-building and fundraising efforts will look very different this year, and we aim to ensure our efforts are thoughtful and responsible. Principal Seidel will host a virtual Buckman Community Meeting on September 14 for families at two different times: 8:30am and 6:00pm. The link to the meeting is provided in the school weekly newsletter. This is an excellent opportunity to get your questions answered as well as hear updates from the SUN program, the School Climate Team, and others.

Connecting with the Buckman Community

As we enter into this academic season in ways we never imagined, it’s arguably more important now than ever to stay connected to our community. We’d like to take the opportunity to remind Buckman community members of some of the ways to do so over the course of this year:

Konstella – This is an opt-in messaging system used by many staff members, the PTA, and the Foundation to communicate information about school happenings. Sign up for your account at https://www.konstella.com. Some teachers use Konstella for information specific to your classroom; if that is the case, you will want to be sure you connect your student with that classroom within Konstella. Information on how to do so is available on the Konstella website.

Buckman Community Facebook Group – Request to join this informal community group, where parents, families, and staff ask questions and share feedback. https://www.facebook.com/groups/951435464869628

Weekly Newsletter – The Buckman Foundation and other groups regularly contribute information to the school’s weekly newsletter, sent each week by Principal Seidel. If you are not receiving the school newsletter, check with administrators to be sure they have the correct email address on file.

Buckmanelementary.org – Content on this website is provided by the PTA and the Foundation (not the same as the Buckman PPS site) throughout the school year. You are also able to subscribe to the school-wide calendar here.

SCRIP and Buckman Apparel Sales

Looking for Buckman apparel?  The Buckman Foundation will be selling apparel – including new Buckman Bear face masks for youth and adults ($10), I heart Buckman bandanas, and other goodies — from 4-6pm in front of Buckman on the following dates:

Sept. 10th, Sept. 24th, Oct. 8th, Oct. 22nd, and Nov. 19th

Chromebook Pick-Up and Library Book Drop-Off

If you still need a Chromebook for your Buckman student, please contact the office to arrange a pick-up time.

Last year’s library books can be returned at the front entrance of the school any time between 8am-4pm, M-F, until September 11. Check your books for the “Buckman School Library” barcode on the spine!

Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year!

A warm welcome to the a new school year to Buckman families, friends, and community members! We’re excited to get the 2018-2019 school year underway and are looking forward to a fun-filled back-to-school season.

Some students have started their school supplies shopping, the PTA and Foundation are already at work getting welcome packets in order, and Buckman staff will be returning to school tomorrow to begin preparing for the school year.

If you are new to Buckman, you will be getting tons of information shortly! In the meantime, a few resources that might be valuable include:

  • This website! This is a parent-run site that keeps the Buckman community informed on school events, fundraisers, and other updates. Of particular interest is the events calendar; subscribe to the feed (use the “Subscribe” link in the bottom-right corner of the calendar) to get Buckman updates to your calendar of choice.
  • Two Facebook options: one is the Buckman Elementary Facebook page (also parent-run) which provides ongoing info about school happenings throughout the school year. The other is the Buckman Facebook Community Group. Request to join to interact with other Buckman families and community members.
  • The official PPS Buckman Elementary page. This is a great resource for finding teacher contact information, school newsletter arches, and district information.
  • The school newsletter comes out on Wednesdays to your designated email. Look for it soon! It gives you more detailed information about specific events, as well as contributions from SUN program offerings.
