Buckman will be hosting an Emergency Preparedness Fair on Monday, April 4, starting at 6:30 pm. Families can come and get information and resources for making a Family Emergency Plan as well as learn about how our school is trying to prepare for the possibility of an emergency. In addition, Buckman’s Safety committee along with Buckman Neighborhood NET are interested in locating a Buckman parent or neighbor who is a trained radio operator and could help out in the event of an emergency. Also Portland Bureau of Emergency Management is looking for folks willing to attend extensive NET training in May. If you have questions or are interested, please contact Melina in the office or Diane in the SUN office. We are hoping to build a strong emergency response team at our school in conjunction with the neighborhood NET team.
Mark your calendars for a night of live music, food & drink, and bidding! This year, Buckman will celebrate its annual auction at a new venue: the Hinson Baptist Church. As Buckman’s biggest fundraiser, this is the chance for Buckman families and friends to support our amazing school at a fun and festive event! Bookmark www.buckmanauction.org for tickets and updates.
Please join us May 10 at 6:15pm to hear from a teacher at Lewis Elementary and her daughter, a Cleveland high school student, on how to create the foundation for healthy relationships. They will discuss how to address “the talk” with your children, what a healthy relationship looks like, building a support system, creating a safe space for your children, how to open up communication channels, characteristics of what an unhealthy relationship looks like, and how to instill personal responsibility. If you have any questions or want further information please contact Sada Dewey in the counseling office.
The Buckman pool is in danger of being closed, and we need voices to speak up in support of keeping it open! Please consider attending the final budget hearing regarding the pool on May 12, 6:30-8:30 pm at City Hall. Wear Buckman blue, bring your kids, and testify!
We are so grateful to the many volunteers that make Buckman a special place for our students and families. Please join us in celebrating all of our collective efforts. There will be a special performance by our very own Buckman chorus and snacks and refreshments will be served. See you there!
